One winter holiday when we were home for the holidays ,we solved a peculiar case.It was a cold night. The picture on top of the blog..thats how old we were..wish Our dog Tommy was also in the picture.Tommy our pet dog completed the picture of the four find- outers al la Enid Blyton.
We had lots of domesticated animals during our growing up years. The dog was more like one of us tailed us all day long and was part of the vacation fun. That cold winter night, sometime after dinner we heard a commotion in the hen house. We suspected it was the "udo bedal" or wild cat again,it had again managed to gain access and kill, carry away some or hen or chick.Tommy who was chained outside on the verandah was barking agitatedly. The parents stepped out to investigate and released Tommy. He went barking towards the hen house..we all followed.Mom did a head count and announced the big fat murga...a big old rooster was missing.
Tommy kept barking and ran towards the gate and kept running back to us.We realized he was trying to tell us something. So taking the watchman, and armed with torches and heavy sticks we let Tommy out and followed. He crossed the road and kept barking and looking at us .we followed thinking maybe the wild cat had dragged the poor rooster and left it there n the bushes. He stopped near a bush and suddenly went wild barking. The Chowkidaar went close and shone the torch in the bushes..we heard the rooster whimpering.Yeah! a cry went up.The chowkidaar reached under the bushes and pulled out a bundle.Imagine out surprise when we saw the poor half dead rooster bundled in a shawl. We hurried back home ,excited that we solved the case of the missing murga.Once back home the rooster was given a drink of water and released in the hen house. The big piece of evidence ..the shawl was scrutinzed and found to be the drivers. The driver was hauled up and he stood there a very sozzled and very sorry murga chor.
Tommy the hero had added yet another feather to his cap.
